Hi, the name is Shoo. I’m your average weekend warrior that enjoys mountain / road biking and likes to begrudgingly run. By day I’m a software engineer and by weekend I’m a trail warrior. I’ve been cycling, well since I was a kid, but started taking it “seriously” aka buying better bikes and gear a few years ago after I scored some paychecks with my first real ‘adult’ job and went out and bought a mountain bike.
The Bluegilllover and I have been contemplating the idea of blogging our trials and tribulations about cycling and running for a while. You come up with strange ideas like this when you do rides centered around eating donuts to knock time off of your total rides and run long distances (running is 3 levels away from crazy anyway). And things get weirder when you’re off the bike and you start reading guys like Fat Cyclist, Bike Snob, and Drunk Cyclist. They just exacerbate the idea.
So this will be our blog for biking, running and possibly swimming to make this a full triathlon of a blog. Now please don’t get the idea that you’ll be seeing top poll finishes and 6 minute miles. No, no, no… we’re just average dudes that like to talk rubber and squeeze in some miles between work, DIY home projects, and life.
So a quick intro of what I’m riding, I’ve got a couple bikes in my garage. All dear to my heart. Above is my road bike. It’s the bike I’ve put the most miles on. It’s a 1996 steel framed Waterford. It’s a former racing bike that I bought from a former racer. Even though it’s 15 years old, it’s light and has some really nice components on it. It’s highly recognizable and I’m always getting asked if I’m on the team. Raises the street cred, but no, I’m not on the team.
Above is the workhorse, a 2005 Specialized Hard Rock Sport. I’ve beaten the crap out of this bike and it still rolls. The best component on this bike has to be the Time pedals. When I bought them I had a hard time swallowing the idea of paying over a $100 for a pair of pedals. They’ve been worth every dollar. This was the baby that I bought when I started my first real adult job.
Other things that are close to my heart: my wife and two dogs, Starbucks, and beer. Is that personal enough?
Hope you enjoy the blog!

You say running is 3 levels from crazy…. hmmmm I always thought that was cycling
Cycling at least make sense… you sit down when you do it.
[...] “How do I keep from being a lazy bump on a log when what I really want to do is get fit?” you ask. Or should ask. Well, just read this story from Be Healthy Springfield. It features this guy. [...]
